Calendar of Events
School officially begins on Monday, August 15th for the PEEPS Program at Robins.
It was truly my pleasure meeting with all of you last week! I have two more pieces of paperwork that need to be filled out, so I will catch you when I can, whether it be by email, during our small group time, or on the first day of school in the drop off or pick-up line.
*Please be sure to fill out the form for free or reduced lunch online. There is no more automatic free food this year unless your household qualifies. The children will be eating breakfast and lunch at school. You are welcome to send your child with food if you choose. Thanks!*
You will be dropping off your child in the main parking area by the school building no earlier than 7:45 a.m. We will be serving breakfast from 8-8:30a.m. Lunch will be from 11-11:30 a.m. Dismissal will be at 1:45p.m. (except on Wednesdays, which is 1 p.m.) for grades K-5. We will dismiss at 12:45p.m. on Wednesdays where Kinder drops off and picks up.
Welcome to Pre-K! I look forward to meeting you and your child shortly. This page will be updated monthly. :)
Working together as a team is the only way we can help your child succeed.
Tips for Parents:
* Please check or ask your child to empty out his/her backpack each night for hw and any notes/notices.
*Please be sure to send an extra change of clean clothes(including underwear and socks) that can stay in your child's cubby in case of an accident.
* Your child will also need a blanket for nap time that will stay in class all week and go home on Fridays to be washed and returned the following week.
* Please write or have your child write their name on their belongings before bringing them to school. This includes sweaters, jackets, and lunch boxes.
* Please be sure that your child gets plenty of rest and arrives on time each day.
*Please keep in contact with me. I'm here to help in any way that I can. We're all on the same team! :)
Class News
This year the Pre-K Class will be following
The Teaching Early Literacy and Language (TELL) Curriculum. It was developed by speech pathologists and early childhood education teachers to improve the early literacy and oral language skills of young children, which includes those with developmental disabilities/challenges.
The TELL Curriculum includes fun and engaging activities and routines along with weekly lesson plans and targeted practices which include the integration for motor development, social emotional development, literacy, math, science, art, and music.
TELL is comprised of five structured learning opportunities:Whole Group, Dialogic Reading, Meal/Snack Conversation Cards, Activity Suggestions, and Integrated Writing. This learning happens in the form of play. So, free play is a central piece of the curriculum.
If you would like to take a look at the curriculum before or after school, please let me know and I'll be happy to share it with you.
The lessons will be organized by themes and we will spend 1-2 weeks on each theme(maybe more depending upon the class' interest in it).
Throughout the year, we will be learning through play. We will also encourage the children to learn or continue to advocate for themselves and their needs.
The first theme is entitled We Love School.
We will focus on letter recognition and sounds but not necessarily in the order that you may think. The curriculum spirals so the students will review previous letters throughout the year as well.
Week 1 will highlight the letters S and A, both the long and short sound of a.
We will be writing and publishing our own class book this first semester as my other classes have done in the past. Although this will be my first year attempting it with students much younger, I believe it can be done. Depending upon your child's abilities, he/she will either dictate or write or both and then illustrate their own picture. Copies will be available to purchase at one specific time.More information will come as we get closer.
The classroom will also have centers that incorporate the Arizona Early Childhood Learning Standards. There is a link if you would like to look at those. I will be using an iPad to snap photos of the students throughout the day/week and will record their milestones regularly. Some work or projects will be sent home and some may be saved for conference time.
TUSD Preschool Programs use the Conscious Discipline approach. You are welcome to click on the link to get a better understanding of it. I've outlined some main ideas below.
What are the 3 components of Conscious Discipline?
These sections are Safety, Connection, and Problem-Solving. Each of these focuses on one skill to discipline children, one power for conscious adults, current brain information an how to build your school family.
In Conscious Discipline, we use the skill of
"noticing" to teach children to reflect without
judgement.
For consequences to be effective, children and adults must:
1. Be connected.
2. Learn to stop and reflect on their choices and outcomes.
3. Be able to take personal responsibility
for the consequences of their actions.
Conscious Discipline at Home
- See the situation from your child's perspective.
- Offer close-end choices.
- Set rules beforehand.
- Plan ahead to avoid difficult situations.
- Remain calm.
